With a five-day break quickly approaching, students are realizing the pressure to take advantage of this time off from school. Many opinions exist on how to fully experience this small pause, but I’d like to share my 10 steps to the perfect break — I may be biased, but I think it’s foolproof.
- If you are able to go home, wait until your classes are finished. I know it’s tempting to skip, but finals are coming up and you don’t want to miss potentially vital information.
- Eat as much food as you can. Don’t worry about gained weight. The stress of finals will likely burn it all off.
- Sleep in. I know you have a lot of homework to do, but sleeping for a few extra hours isn’t going to hurt anything.
- Spend a lot of time with your family, if you can. They may be bothersome, but this break is for remembering the things we’re thankful for.
- Don’t spend too much time with friends. It’s tempting to hang out with all of your friends when you go home (or even if you stay on campus), but remember that you’ll be back for Christmas in two more weeks!
- Watch at least 3 movies. One kid cartoon. One family holiday movie. And one rom-com. These are respectively to remind you to relax and enjoy life, to bask in the comfort of your loved ones, and to be glad you aren’t a victim of Ring by Spring. I mean, do you see how complicated life is for people in love?
- If you go home, do some chores! I know you haven’t been around for a while, but that doesn’t mean your mom wouldn’t appreciate you doing some dishes or vacuuming the living room. Don’t be a bum.
- Don’t complain about your homework. For five days, enjoy life and be thankful. It’s simple. Do homework and do it well, but don’t complain about it. You’re blessed to be going to such a great school.
- Vocally tell a few people you are grateful for their presence in your life.
- Wherever you go, drive safe.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
