After a black Marion County Sheriff SUV hit a light pole at the corner of Aumsville Highway and Deer Park Drive today, a deputy and a cadet sustained no serious injuries.
The deputy was responding to an emergency on Aumsville Highway at about 4:15 p.m., and with lights and siren going was passing cars on his way up the hill said Salem Police Department Sgt. Tony Moore. The deputy lost control of his vehicle right before Deer Park because of the nature of the road and hill according to Sgt. Moore, and went off the road, knocking over a light pole and hitting a manhole.
Brian Mabry, who lives in the townhouses across the street from the accident, said that he was talking on the phone with his father when he saw the SUV skid off the road and into the field. “I thought it had gone through a gate and was chasing an escaped prisoner,” he said. “Then I looked again and it was still there, so I went to investigate and I saw the light pole and I thought, ‘Oh, that’s what happened.’”
Salem police investigated and directed traffic around the pole lying in the road as they reconstructed the events.

I was wondering what happened. Thanks!

Maybe the ‘nature of’ a top heavy SUV (under a lead foot) is more likely the culprit… (* note: speeding to the scene of an accident is perfectly acceptable and is NOT in question here!) ;)
(I found it humorous to blame the hill)
So happy to know everyone is well!
