Name: Emily Teterud
Grade: Senior (next year)
Major: Communications
Position: President
Q: What do you hope to accomplish next year?
A: Besides continuing our fun events and activities, next year I’m hoping to focus on ‘service’ as a student body. I want to encourage students to be intentional in serving beyond Corban’s campus. There are even ways we can take our on-campus ministries (Organizations, Worship events, etc.) and include the Salem community.
Q: Why did you apply for this position?
A: Because I have a passion for the people here. I believe my leadership experience will be helpful in serving as President. I have served this past year on ASB, and absolutely loved it! Now, I desire to serve another year and really encourage students to reach their potential in whatever ministry they are involved in. I believe we each have an opportunity to leave a positive impact on Corban as well as the Salem community.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I love to write and perform music. Any free time I have is spent with music–whether I’m listening to it on the radio, going to a concert, or singing and playing at the piano.
Q: What four words would you use to describe yourself?

Q: What song or movie describes you best?
A: “Many the Miles,” by Sara Bareilles
Name: Landon Hattan
Grade: Sophomore (next year)
Major: Business
Position: Vice President
Q: What do you hope to accomplish next year?
A: The way I see things, ASB did an incredible job this past year and to set goals to revamp something awesome is absolutely bogus. At the same time, there are some things I’ve set my eyes on that are open to some bolstering. It is my goal to give a hearty injection of fire into our already simmering fan base. The possibilities are endless with cheers, chants, and ways of supporting our athletes, and I’d love to see everybody buy into a high energy, loving-our-warriors mentality. The way I see it, stands weren’t built to support people with hands in their pockets, and half-interest but for fists in the air and vocal noise that challenges the structural integrity of the C.E Jeffers Center.
All this is exciting and all, but beyond the playing field my desire is that our leadership team can help facilitate opportunities of outreach; chances for our student body to be challenged by way of living out our faith through service and intentional relationship building between other schools and the community of Salem.
Q: Why did you apply for this position?
A: Well, I hadn’t thought about the vice president position specifically until Emily approached me about it, but I had definitely put a lot of thought into going for a leadership position in general. I love being involved and invested in things that I care about. I love this school and have been impacted in a lot of ways and I guess naturally just began growing a desire to have a position that I could represent something I’m loyal to, and do it with and for some pretty awesome people.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I enjoy most anything active and with people, lately this has taken the form of a lot of hiking and exploring. I love anything unplanned, random, and impromptu. This leads to difficulty in categorizing specific interests, but when I find myself on unexpected adventures, or worshiping with a group that weren’t aware such things was on the schedule, I’m generally pretty happy. I think I am going to start getting into rock-climbing soon, hopefully un-established interests are alright to mention. I play basketball and work out to play better basketball as well. I like to read challenging, thought provoking books for general life betterment but haven’t found myself to be choosing this option as of late. Probably should start doing that again to play better life.

Name: Steffan Bard
Grade: Senior (next year)
Major: Interdisciplinary Studies: Psychology, and Humanities
Position: Ministries Coordinator
Q: What do you hope to accomplish next year?
A: So much! I don’t know where to start, so I’ll generalize: My heart and main passion for Corban is to encourage a more authentic spiritual environment where we can grow in heart devotion to God through Christ’s transforming grace. I don’t think the problem is with us knowing Christ (because we do) but more often it has to do with various obstacles impeding the process. Truth be told, in a profound way, spiritual growth doesn’t come by our own efforts. Because we are in Christ, we are going to grow – but it will differ depending on whether we plant ourselves beside riverbeds or in the desert.
For starters, I would like to identify some of the obstacles to spiritual growth I’ve faced at Corban (and I suspect many others do and have as well) while being open to hearing and helping others identify their more specific ones in order that we might learn to receive God’s grace and thus find the permission and freedom there is for those who are in Christ to wrestle with those obstacles whether they be addictions, unconfessed habits of sin, difficult relationships, loneliness, deep questions about God or whether we really trust Him etc.
I don’t think I’m going to fix all the world’s or all of Corban’s problems, but inasmuch as God continues to inspire me in this direction, I hope to follow it and see what can be done toward this end.
Q: Why did you apply for this position?
A: It was because a friend texted me literally two days before the applications were due with a “Hey, I think you should try and run for ministries coordinator. I think you would do well with it. Just my thoughts lol.” I texted back with uncertainty. They encouraged me more. Earlier that day I had a conversation with one of my roommates about my desire to “put my faith in action” more and share what God’s entrusted me with. As I thought more about the ASB ministries coordinator position after said friend texted me I got more and more excited about the idea and it just snowballed from there.
Q: What do you like to do in your free time?
A: I like to read books, blogs, psychology and theology magazines. I like to play video games with my roommates and talk to people. I also like ping pong, guitar, listening to music, writing things (songs, essays, poetry, calligraphy, thoughts in general – you should see how many sticky notes my desk has on it!). That’s a good overview. I feel like I never have enough time to do all the things I like to do!
Q: What four words would you use to describe yourself?
A: Ah, this is the hardest question. Geez, okay well I’ll mix in some negative things with positive so I won’t come across as arrogant or self-loathing. Thoughtful, honest, ambivalent, idealistic.
Q: What four words would your pet, car or cellphone use to describe you?
A: I have no idea what my car or phone would say about me and I haven’t had a pet for a long time – here, I’ll just give you a couple more words that other people have used to describe me before: Introspective, deep, sensitive, party-animal-super-awesome-guy-yes. As the kids are doing on the Twitter these days #yeah.
Q: What song or movie describes you best?
A: I really resonate with Switchfoot’s “Vice Verses” and The Classic Crime’s “Closer Than We Think.”
