On one of the last sunny days in September, Sept. 26., five teams gathered together to participate in Campus Recreation’s Intramural 9-hole Golf Tournament.
Twenty students, staff, and alumni brought out their golf bags to compete on the small and challenging Meadowlawn Golf Course.
Starting at 3:30pm, the teams made their way through the course looking to gain the upper hand by gaining the lowest possible score. Players had to be sure not to hit the neighboring apartment complexes located directly on the edge of the course; challenging for even experienced golfers.
When all was said and done, the teams tallied up their score and handed them into the Intramural Office the day after the competition. Coming in at the fourth place was Team Silver who as a collective shot 3 over par with noticeably good strokes by Captain Chase Silver and Donny Zavala who both managed to get birdies on hole 3.
In third place, was the team captained by David Ward. The group managed to get ahead of Team Silver with a score of just 2 over par. On this team, Captain Ward managed to pull off a birdie on the final whole while the rest of the team each succeeded in getting a par for one hole.
Coming in at second place was Team Shoun. As a collective, this team had an admirable performance and came in at 1 under par for the course. This effort, however, was not enough to match that of our 2013-2014 Campus Recreation Intramural 9 Hole Golf Tournament champions, Team Patterson.
Team Patterson took away the championship with a total score of 5 under par. Leading the way with three birdies was teammate Zach Mode. Tessa Carver and Trevor Wells each contributed to the end result by adding a birdie apiece. Thus they claimed the first Intramural championship under the new banner of Campus Recreation.
