It is that time of year again – the hoops are down, the Barracks are filled with screaming fans with sounds of brand new Nike’s squeaking against the freshly swept floors in the background. It is officially basketball season. The Warriors had a substantial victory over Portland Bible College in last night’s basketball game.
The Warriors came out strong scoring 42 points in the first quarter. Freshman Caleb Herzberg led the team in points in the first quarter shooting 5-3 pointers and only missing one. Senior Jordan Carter also came out strong in his first and final season back from his knee injury last season. Carter, along with senior Josiah Sebens scored 7 points each in the first quarter. The rest of the game continued to look like the first 12 minutes.
By half time the Warriors had a 15 point lead. The fourth quarter had a lot of good defense and kept Portland Bible College working. Freshman Michael Garrett earned his first collegiate points off a free throw in the last quarter. The final score was a 91-53 point victory for the Warriors.
Going into the season, the team is shooting and 50.08% overall and 90.05%. Coach Maston said he is happy that the first game is going and it was exactly what the team needed. He said they were getting tired of playing against each other day in and day out. The men’s basketball team will be playing in Northern California this Friday and will be facing Menlo College.
