Strong recruits and dedicated returners have combined to make coaches predict a solid season for track and field for 2011. Head coach and track program founder Norm Berney said he feels the program is finally “established” at Corban, and notes that bonding among this year’s team members is “amazing.”
Because of their previous records, he is excited that returners Bianca Davis, Eliya Kohl, Jocelynn Smith, Rebecca Stanton and Emilee Grubb are back for this season. Additions to the team are newcomers Hannah Whitehead, Becca Cox, Rachel Newby, Maddie Parsons and Abigail VanHoogen.
As a junior, Davis set school records last year in the 100-meter dash (13.03 seconds), 200-meter dash (25.88 seconds), 400-meter run (58.27 seconds), 4×100 relay (50:23 seconds) and 4×400 relay (3 minutes, 57:54 seconds).
Kohl finished all-conference in the long jump, triple jump and 4×100.
As a freshman, Mosier was conference champion in shot put with a 12.71-meter throw and also went to nationals.
David Anderson set school records last year in the 200-meter dash (22.52 seconds), 400-meter dash (49.16 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (55.46 seconds). He was the conference champion in the 400 and went to nationals in the 400 hurdles.
Although injured with a stress fracture, Caleb Goins set the school record in the 1500-meter run (3 minutes, 59.98 seconds).
David Brown scored points at conference in steeplechase with a 9-minute, 48.47 second run last year.
Additions to the men’s team are Jordan Hatfield, Kyle Croft, James Mryvold and Mark Hanson.
