Many students here do not have cars, and Corban has just introduced a new CarShare program from a partnership with Enterprise Car Rentals. According to Nathan Geer, this program should make life a little easier for the students without cars, encouraging them to get off campus and participate in the community, while also offering them the luxury of being able to drive to a study spot at midnight.
Geer is excited about this program. “This offer makes it possible for more people to access Salem without increasing the number of cars on campus,” he says. “It also helps strengthen an already positive relationship with Enterprise.
Jenna Stebly is also anticipating that this resource will be beneficial to students. She says, “I hope that it gives students more freedom to do day-to-day tasks, such as running to the grocery store, or even for day adventures to Portland.”
Interested students visit the website (http://www.enterprisecarshare.com/corban) to find more details and pay a one time application fee of $25 to get started. The first year of membership only cost $1 and every year after that is $35. Members must be 18 years or older, and members 18-20 without insurance will receive minimum liability protection from Enterprise CarShare.
The cost is $5 an hour, including gas. The CarShare vehicles can be found in the Davidson Parking Lot 24/7.
Geer encourages students to take advantage of this prospect. “I would like to see more opportunities for students without cars to have transportation around Salem. Students can use these cars to attend Reach projects, go to church, [or] hit up Taco Bell.”
