Corban’s annual Turkey Trot is just a week away, and students are already preparing for it.
Aside from getting their costumes ready, students have also been collecting non-perishable food for the canned food drive contest between all brother/sister dorms.
This contest leads up to the trot on Monday, November 25, and the food raised will go directly to local families in need of Thanksgiving meals this year.
For the past few years, Corban has teamed up with Dayspring Fellowship, under the direction of Jenny Dunham, Coordinator of Growth Groups and Community Care, to raise food for the community.
“Dayspring, in partnership with Countryside Christian Church and many local businesses, offers up to 200 complete thanksgiving meal boxes to children in our community,” Dunham said.
This provides a way for students to reach out to the community, in the format of a fun contest. There are four competing teams this year:
-Balyo and Davidson
-Aagard and Farrar
-PVG
-Commuters/Townhouses/Staff
The winning team will get an ASB-sponsored party.
Be sure to contribute some canned food to your team’s bin, located in the lobby of your dorm. If you are staff, your bins are in the Schimmel employee break room by the microwave. If you are a commuter or townhouse member, your bin is in the commuter lounge, downstairs in the coffee shop.
The actual Turkey Trot race is on Mon. Nov. 25 at 10 A.M. in front of Schimmel. Those who participate in the race get a free t-shirt, courtesy of ASB.
While we have fun racing, getting free t-shirts, and drinking hot cocoa, we also get to be a part of a bigger opportunity to help local families.

“We have many opportunities available and would love to welcome any Corban Student who wants to be a part of a really cool, hands on experience of service, ” Dunham added.
