For some time Corban Recreation has tried to provide students with a greatly desired paintball event. Finally on Oct. 11, they succeeded by partnering with the new Outdoor Adventure division of their department.
The new department allows for students to participate in events and activities that aren’t necessarily sports oriented. Along with paintballing, students can also look forward hiking, kayaking, and beach expeditions.
Working with Canyonview Camp, Corban’s Campus Rec. was able to host an all-day outing of paintball battles. Sixteen students took to the battle field decked out with their weaponry and armor consisting of dirty and used sweats. Each student determined to face off and prove they were the greatest warrior among the lot.
The adventure took place on last week’s study day, and while the students may have been busy shooting paint it is said that physical activity helps encourage better studying. Adrenaline rushes through your body as your heart races faster causing an increase in your mental acuity. These soldiers on the field were not only relieving stress from the classroom, but they were also preparing their minds for optimal informational intake of study material later on that day.
At the end of the day, everyone had fun. So much fun, in fact, the students managed to convince Donny Zavala, Campus Recreation Director, to participate in the last rounds of the day.
Amidst a field of whizzing paintballs and ducking behind trees and forts, the students had a blast. Some walked away with lumps and bruises from taking a hit, but none suffered any serious injuries.
