To help students decide how to vote we have created a survey of the candidates for next year’s Associated Student Body positions. All candidates were asked to respond to the question, “What strengths would you bring to your position? Why are you qualified?” Below are their answers. Voting on surveymonkey will open after chapel (11:00am on Monday) and close at 11:00am on Tuesday. A link to the voting site will be included in an ASB email.
Carrie Bernard (President):
Serving on ASB this year has helped to train me and teach me what the president’s responsibilities are. I have had the opportunity to watch the current president at work and get a feel for what my life would look like next year. In high school I served on the band and choir council, as well as governing board. These councils as well as ASB have taught me the importance of delegating in leadership roles. I have also learned the importance of being organized, approachable, and responsible. I am not always the best communicator, but I have learned how to work well with others; being receptive to their ideas, but also standing my ground when necessary. The past several years of my life have really taught me how to be an effective leader.
Kevin Coriano (VP):
As Vice President, it is important to have good social strengths, team building abilities, discernment, and have the heart to serve. I know that I will strive to do my best to meet my criteria. During my time here at Corban I realize that I love to build strong relationships with other students. Not only be friends at the surface, but grow that friendship to a point where we share our life problems and victories. Communication with the students here on campus and connect with people is my goal. The other strength I have to offer is my time dedication. When I’m committed to a sport or a project I will make sure that I will put the time and diligence into what I’m doing so that I can perform it to the best of my abilities. I also set goals for myself so that I endeavor to be better and reach the ASB responsibilities. The other strength I would bring to ASB is a discerning attitude. I am an analyzer and always look at the outcomes and results from scenarios. My main goal, if elected, is to help grow the ASB team and the student body spiritually.
Natalie Mayo (Treasurer):
Corban has provided me with countless opportunities to be served by its students, staff, and faculty. It is my desire to give back to the students in such a capacity that might not be known or seen by all, but in a diligent, hard working, behind-the-scenes manner. It would be an honor to serve the students in this endeavor, as well as serve my fellow ASB board members in supporting them in their positions as well. I love Corban and all that it represents to the community, so to be a part of the executive board would further enforce my belief in ASB’s mission.
Liane DeHart (Treasurer):
I believe that I am a strong candidate for the executive board treasurer and want to play a part in making Corban more enjoyable for students. First and foremost I am a servant at heart. I love to spend my time and energy helping others whenever possible. Secondly, I am an accounting major and have taken 2 years of accounting classes and am able to complete all tasks regarding my position. I also play softball for the Warriors and get along extremely well with others and believe this is an important trait to have as an ASB member. I believe my fun/outgoing personality and hard work ethic are huge strengths that any ASB member needs to have. But more than anything I am running for my fellow students. I want to make a budget that puts money towards the clubs and activities YOU care about. Because when our time here is done I want each student to have memories that last a lifetime.
Amanda Martini (Communications Coordinator):
Strengths: I have student leadership experience from being an RA last year. I know what it is like to be a student leader at Corban and the expectations that brings. I also have the experience of communicating with college students, which can often times be a challenge J . I am an organized person and am always looking for ways to simplify and improve processes. I believe that in any leadership position you have to be willing to take criticism and listen to peoples’ suggestions. I am fully prepared to take in all suggestions from the student body and implement changes that they would see as effective.
Qualified: I have worked with Meredith some to learn about the position, so I know what it entails. I know that I am very capable of carry out the necessary duties for the Communications Officer. I have served in a lot of leadership positions throughout my schooling that required me to provide useful information and to be available and approachable by students. I have worked as a part of teams before and understand the dynamics they bring, and how to find my niche in one.
Jesse Belleque (Communications Coordinator)
I would bring experience in leadership and creativity, but most of all a love for the student body. I am qualified because I have experience in leading a team and creating publications as the yearbook editor.
Alysha Fox (Communications Coordinator)
I am willing to step outside of the box and do any duties necessary in order to represent my school. I tend to be the planner when things come up so I will be able to work with the activities coordinator or media coordinator if needed. I am an extreme multi-tasker and I have good time management that developed throughout high school as a result of sports and that carried into college. I don’t mind the commitment aspect of being on ASB at all because I know I can plan out my daily/weekly schedule in a way that will work in tune with school work.
Karen Ramos (Communications Coordinator)
I have excellent scheduling abilities. I am an extremely organized, hardworking, and reliable person. I feel that these characteristics would translate well in the position of a Communications Coordinator. I am qualified because I am a very detail and deadline-oriented person. I am willing and able to lend a hand to other board members if they are in need of help.
Rebecca Anni (Activities Coordinator)
I love Corban, the people here and the sense of a close knit community that this University fosters. One of my earliest and favorite memories of Corban was ASB’s Beach Bash. As a freshman, I did not know many people and this was my first chance to interact with new people and participate in fun activities. I have a deep appreciation for great people, healthy fun and Christian fellowship. I experienced all of these things at this event. This, then, was the beginning of my passion for the Corban ASB events. Consistently, at these events, I have met new people, and had opportunities to try new things. It is with a grateful heart that I desire to give back to the community that I love. I want to be part of a program that has made my years at Corban a lot more interesting.
In terms of experience, I have served as an Activities Director at summer camp. This requires being able to make flexible plans and to be creative but organized. I work well with others and thrive by being around people. I want to share my love for life with others and believe serving as Activities Director would be a great way to do this. I understand part of what makes Corban such a great place is our sense of community. I will do my best to plan events that will facilitate fun, fellowship and Corban community spirit. Remember 1,2,3 you can count on me, Rebecca Anni
Amy Drake (Activities Coordinator)
All four years of high school I was on Student Government, serving my senior year as Student Body President. I was responsible to plan monthly events for the student body which required organization and hard work. Since I came to Corban, I’ve had the privilege of assisting our current ASB Activities Coordinator, Annie McKay, with ASB activities. I’ve seen the amount of work that goes into the job and I am willing to put in the time and effort it takes to ensure another fun year.
First of all, I am a hard worker. I put forth my best effort no matter how insignificant the task may seem. Secondly, I am very organized…almost to a ridiculous amount. The Activities Coordinator must be organized in order to keep track of all that needs to be done. I am also very detail-oriented. I err on the side of perfectionism, but I like things done well. Overall, I am willing to serve. I desire to serve my student body in the way that the Lord has gifted me and I’m excited to see how He uses that.
David Holcomb (Organizations Coordinator)
I am a driven, motivated, passionate individual who believes leadership always begins with listening. By listening to others, I am able to make informed decisions which will have a positive impact on those I represent. Further, I believe servant-leadership is a must. Headstrong, stubborn leaders never get anywhere. I may have great ideas, yet they may not represent the vision of the student body. Finally, I strongly believe organizations, and the student body, possess such a high capacity for making a difference at Corban, in Salem, and in this world for Jesus Christ.
I believe my strengths combined with my knowledge of organizations will allow me the ability to serve, encourage, and provide assistance to current organization leaders and those seeking to participate in leadership roles. Also, I believe I have a vision for Corban’s student organizations which will make a difference in the future; and I know this greater future can be written with the help of talented, gifted students with a passion to serve.
Jarren Baker (Ministries Coordinator)
I think that my strength in this area of ASB would be leadership. I felt lead to run when a series of events unfolded in my life which will allow me to be here full time next year, and I think that the Ministry position is my best fit on ASB. I have experience, insight, and passion to lead people in different avenues of worship (i.e. music, sports, missions, service) and to bring fresh ideas to the table that will hopefully make for a great year next year. Overall, I feel like my ability to lead and administrate will be my greatest strength. I would say I am qualified to be in this position because of my experience in ministry. I am a ministry major, I am involved in music ministry, youth ministry, sports/children ministry, and I have been an RA this year allowing me to minister to Corban’s on-campus student body in the dorms.
Bryce Phelan (Ministries Coordinator)
I possess several strengths that would contribute to the Executive Board. First, I am planning on pursuing ministry as a career and have been studying it for three and a half years. Through those years here at Corban, I have increased my knowledge concerning ministry, as well as leadership. Along with my study, I have about six years of experience in ministry. Beginning in high school, I have been involved in my church’s high school ministry, as well as church services. Through those years, I have planned several events, as well as lead music for several services. Here at Corban, I have been involved in chapel for two and a half years, and have lead a band for over a year. Being involved in several different facets at Corban has also given me an opportunity to meet a wide range of students, which would aid in reaching and ministering to them. Along with having experience in ministry, I am also very organized, responsible, and punctual. I personally believe that being responsible and trustworthy is a reflection of respect. In addition, I am also goal-driven, and work well with others.
Emily Teterud (Ministries Coordinator)
Leadership– I think it is important to set a good example, and I hope that others can see my desire to do what is right.
Public Speaking– Being in a leadership position often requires public speaking. I have the ability to effectively communicate with others and be relatable with them.
Good Team dynamics– I understand that there are times when it is appropriate to lead, and times when it is appropriate to submit and follow. This is important when dealing with a team of ASB members.
Music– The Ministry Coordinator deals with monthly worship nights and other ministry opportunities. I have such a passion for music, and I would love to use that gift God has given me.
Organization– I am an organized person, and I have the ability to keep on track with schedules and details. Often, a leader is good at the big picture, but I am able to also deal with the details of plans.
Being a part of ASB requires leadership, hard work, and a love for people.
I strive to be a leader in all that I do, both in attitude and in action. Also, experience in leadership is a strength. I have served as Senior class president during high school and led different fundraisers for my school. I have also led in the worship team for my church for over three years.
I have a good work ethic. I desire to “go the extra mile” when working, and it is important to me to always give my best effort. As I work with the team for ASB, I will be a helpful teammate who takes the time to do things right.
I love people! I love speaking to people. It is important as a member of ASB to keep the students of Corban in mind when planning and leading. We are there to serve the student body and I have a heart that desires to humbly serve.
Erica Fitzgerald (Ministries Coordinator)
I am an energetic, loving, people person. I am an outgoing girl who loves meeting new people and interacting with everyone. This is a strength for executive board because they are the face of Corban and need to be a familiar friendly face to the campus. I think my sense of humor and ability to not stress easily is a good refreshing quality to a busy job like ASB. When I have a job and deadline I am organized and efficient. I will get the work done that is needed and go above and beyond to make it as best as possible. Being an athlete is a good strength as well to have a voice for athletes on the board. On the softball field I show leadership qualities and am constantly working hard for not only myself but also the team. Being involved with sports all my life has taught me to work well with many different personalities and work as a team. I care for every person on this campus and want to see them grow spiritually in serving Christ and getting the amazing experience of sharing this faith with others.
Riley Bidwell (Media Arts Coordinator)
Hi! I am Riley Bidwell an Academic Junior and I am running for Media Arts Coordinator. You may ask, why are you qualified? I have leaned responsibility from a young age running my own businesses. I own and operate both a commercial lawn care company “Legacy Lawn Care” as well as an Internet company that specializes in application building. My internet company has given me experience in web design, internet marketing, Photoshop/Gimp, video editing while making commercials for Iphone applications, and general familiarity with computers. When it comes to technology I have it down. I program for apple and therefore love and use Macs. I also do my video editing in Final Cut Pro. Another trait that I have acquired while running my businesses is the ability to learn quickly and find my own answers. I taught myself to program for Apple, using the “Objective C” code language off of Youtube. After getting as good as I could get with Youtube I audited an online programming class from Princeton University. I am a highly motivated person that chooses to excel in whatever I do. I hope that you will vote for me and allow me to use the talents God has given me to serve YOU!
