speedoodle
The product: speedoodle by Caleb Stultz
What is it?: It’s a new collaborative quick-draw friend game for the iPhone. The premise is that two players (possibly more in the future) are given a blank canvas to draw on. Player one begins by drawing a doodle in a short amount of time (3 seconds to be exact). This is where the “speed” part of speedoodle comes from. Player 2 then receives the speedoodle and opens up the “colorize” palette to embellish the doodle using various colors, text annotations, etc. turning it into a real picture based off the framework of the doodle.
How it got started: I thought of an old paper-and-pencil game I used to play and wondered if I could turn it into a multiplayer iPhone game. The name came to me immediately: speedoodle. I immediately began sketching out screenshots of how I wanted my app to look, what the interface would be like. I used Sellanapp’s iPad app to mock up my application adding touch sensitive parts that enabled it to function like a real app. Afterward, I uploaded it to Sellanapp.com, they reviewed it, and eventually gave me the “OK” to launch. I launched at 2:00am, October 8th, 2013 and in a short 2 days had 10 pledgers totaling $400. I’m aiming to raise about $10,000 because an app of this caliber (features, server usage, etc.) needs that much for development.
What you do: I decided to make this game for a number of reasons. One reason was for the fun of it. I have loved all things technology for the longest time and I have always had a knack for Apple products being that I was raised using them. Naturally, app development was a perfect fit for me. I’d love to learn Objective-C (the iPhone programming language) but being a Senior-level Education Major, there’s simply no time. Another reason I decided to make this game was because I wanted a new game to play that allowed me to connect with my friends and collaborate but in a new way, never before seen.
