The latest and greatest from Apple Inc. is what they are yet again calling, “The biggest thing to happen to iPhone since iPhone”.
The iPhone 5 is technically the 6th generation of the world’s most popular mobile device, and for good reason. The iPhone (originally released in 2007) is the clear leader in the smart phone industry with its innovative technology and iOS software.
This newest addition to the iPhone family does not disappoint. It touts a new A6 processing chip that enables the phone to run at blazing fast speeds.
“[Last year’s model] the 4S is already a very fast phone but with the iPhone 5, the speed is doubled and it has 1GB of RAM which is twice that of the past two iPhone models,” says Caleb Stultz, Farrar RA/avid iPhone user.
The 5 comes with the new iOS 6 software upgrade, and includes a few new built-in features as well as 4G network compatibility.
Junior Stefan Hinkley says his favorite is the Passport app.
“It basically holds all your gift cards, flight tickets, movie tickets that you can scan upon arrival at that place. Super cool,” says Hinkley.
The app even tracks your current location. An example: Upon entering the airport terminal, your airline ticket pops up on your screen automatically ready to scan. The display is the highest quality seen on a phone yet, and it is displayed in an all new 4-inch screen.
“Who doesn’t love a little more screen space?” says Stultz about the impressive 1,136 × 640 pixel display.
The iPhone 5 wows in nearly every way, except for its steep price tag. Apple thinks it has made the best phone ever, and gives it a hefty price tag to justify it. The cheapest model starts at $199, not including service and data plan contracts. However, that hasn’t deterred customers, as the iPhone 5 is currently sold out world-wide and will be for the coming weeks.
“I think it is a great phone for those who have an upgrade and are looking for an iPhone,” says Hinkley, “But if you don’t have an upgrade, it’s not worth it.”
In conclusion, Siri is smarter, pictures are clearer, battery-life is longer and it runs much faster than any previous iPhone. The iPhone 5 is the absolutely best smartphone on the market and is now available (if you can find one)!
